Mid-Year Training
It’s time for club officer mid-year training, and we are
kicking it off with a district-wide Toastmasters Leadership Exchange
(TLE):
Saturday, December 10, 2011
1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
University of Massachusetts – Amherst
Room 162-75
819 Campus Center
One Campus Way
Amherst, MA 01003
Campus and Google Maps links: http://www.umass.edu/umhome/visit_campus.html
Parking in Lot 65 is free, and the Campus Center Garage is
$1.50/hour. Please avoid parking in reserved lots.
Why should you attend TLE?
· Be a better
leader: At the beginning of the Toastmasters year, training was focused on
preparing club officers for the upcoming year: understanding the duties of your
office, and how best to serve your club members. The mid-year TLE is focused on
sharing your experience as club officers: what is working for you, and what
issues are you facing? It is an exchange of ideas, where we identify pain
points, and work together to find solutions. TLE will help you grow your
leadership skills, and improve the Toastmasters experience for your club
members.
· DCP
credit: Attending mid-year training is part of the Distinguished Club
Program (DCP). Your club will earn credit toward DCP point #9 when four or more
of your officers attend. Training must be completed by February 29,
2012.
I hope to see you at the kickoff TLE next weekend. If you
are unable to attend, division-level TLEs will follow. Look for an announcement
from your Division or Area Governor soon.
Education Announcements
The following was announced at the recent District Council
meeting, held at the Fall 2011 Conference:
· Training
Excellence Award: Club officer training is crucial to the success of your
club. When your club has all 7 officers trained in one training session this
year, and at least 4 officers trained in the other, you will be awarded a
District 53 Training Excellence ribbon for your club banner.
· Half-CC and
Half-CL Certificates: Reaching the half-way point toward a Competent
Communicator (CC) or Competent Leader (CL) designation is a big accomplishment,
and recognizing this achievement is important. District 53 will award a
certificate and letter of recognition to anyone that completes 5 projects in the
CC manual, or 5 projects in the CL manual. VPEs or Presidents can email me at
